Building and Maintaining Community Trust Across Europe's Largest Logistics Hub
IMPACT
SEC Newgate has supported Marq Logistics’ logistics portfolio since 2015, helping the business maintain constructive relationships with local communities, elected representatives and statutory stakeholders as Magna Park Lutterworth and Magna Park Corby have expanded and evolved.
Over more than a decade, we have established and managed stakeholder engagement structures that now provide an ongoing forum for dialogue between GLP and local communities, supporting planning applications, operational activity, infrastructure projects and community investment programmes. This approach has become a model for engagement across Marq Logistics’ wider operations and has been recognised internally as best practice.
CHALLENGE
Magna Park Lutterworth is Europe's largest dedicated logistics and distribution park, while Magna Park Corby is one of the UK's largest emerging logistics developments. Together, the sites span multiple local authority and parish council boundaries and involve engagement with a broad range of stakeholders including local communities, elected members, National Highways, planning authorities, occupiers and statutory consultees.
Marq Logistics’ required a long-term communications and stakeholder engagement partner capable of managing complex relationships, addressing local concerns and supporting the business as the parks developed and expanded.
DELIVERY
SEC Newgate established and now manages Community Liaison Groups at both Magna Park Lutterworth and Magna Park Corby, providing an ongoing forum through which local stakeholders can engage directly with Marq Logistics. We chair meetings, manage stakeholder communications, prepare agendas and minutes, maintain dedicated community websites and provide a single point of contact for local stakeholders.
Our role extends beyond traditional consultation and includes:
- Stakeholder engagement with parish, district and county councils, MPs and statutory consultees.
- Communications support for planning applications, local plan promotions and development activity.
- Management of complex infrastructure and highways issues.
- Community investment and ESG communications.
- Reputation management and operational engagement with local communities and occupiers.
- Coordination between Marq Logistics’ development, communications and external advisory teams.
RESULTS
- Ten-year relationship supporting Marq Logistics across two flagship UK logistics parks.
- Quarterly stakeholder forums bringing together representatives from 15 parish councils, local authorities and key agencies.
- Community investment programmes helping distribute more than £1 million to local projects.
- Community engagement model adopted as a benchmark for wider Marq Logistics operations.
