Welcome back to our weekly AI briefing, where we bring you the latest developments in the world of artificial intelligence. AI is rapidly transforming the way we live, work, and interact with the world around us. Every Thursday, we'll bring you a curated selection of interesting stories from the world of AI.

Google Unveils Duet AI Assistant for Workspace Apps

Google is revolutionising productivity with its new Duet AI assistant, which is set to enhance the functionality of its Workspace apps. Following extensive testing with over a million users, this innovative collaborator is being integrated into Gmail, Drive, Slides, Docs, and more.

Duet AI, introduced at Google's I/O developer conference, promises to streamline daily tasks. From transforming Google Docs outlines into dynamic presentations to generating charts from spreadsheet data, Duet offers a wide range of features. It can also serve as a creative companion, assisting with email responses, image generation, and grammar checking.

Apple's Significant Investment in AI for Siri's Chatbot Features

Apple is making substantial strides in artificial intelligence (AI), with a particular focus on developing conversational chatbot features for Siri. This strategic move has been in the works for several years, initiated by Apple's head of AI, John Giannandrea, who established the Foundational Models team dedicated to large-language models (LLMs). By integrating LLMs like Ajax GPT into Siri, Apple aims to empower users to perform complex tasks using natural language.

AI and Animal Communication: Bridging the Gap for Conservation

In response to pressing environmental challenges, scientists and engineers are harnessing artificial intelligence to decode the language of animals. This endeavour, driven by the belief that understanding animal communication can inspire conservation efforts, was sparked by marine biologist Michelle Fournet's study of humpback whales and their distinctive "whup" calls. Leading the charge in this endeavour is the Earth Species Project, a nonprofit organisation leveraging AI to bridge the communication gap with the entire animal kingdom.

As Google and Apple lead the charge in the realm of AI innovation, their endeavours have the potential to reshape how we work, communicate, and engage with the world around us.

From streamlining daily tasks to enabling seamless natural language interactions, these advancements hold great promise.

Simultaneously, the exploration of animal communication through AI reminds us of the urgent need to bridge the gap between humanity and the natural world, offering hope for a future where our understanding of animals fuels greater conservation efforts. In this digital age, technology is not merely a tool; it becomes a bridge to the diverse voices of the planet, both human and animal alike.
