Case study - Regenerating Hove Station Neighbourhood

Delivering much needed purpose built student accommodation in city with high demand

WHAT DID WE DO

SEC Newgate was appointed by Watkin Jones Group to help support on the regeneration of disused office building on Lower Parliament Street, Nottingham for the construction of a 354-bed PBSA scheme. The building was designed to open up access from the city centre to the Sneinton Market shopping area, with a landscaped walkway through the centre of the site. SEC Newgate assisted Watkin Jones Group with engagement with the Creative Quarter, which supported the redevelopment, to discuss the potential to use the 100sqm ground floor commercial space for local independent businesses.

The building was designed to be highly sustainable, targeting BREEAM excellent with a reduced carbon footprint through the use of Air Source Heat Pumps for hot water production enhanced insulation and reduced air permeability through engineered facade reducing heat loss and energy requirement.

While the scheme itself was designed to be car-free, Watkin Jones delivered a new underground car park to be given back to the Council on completion.

I would like to once again thank SEC Newgate for their help on this project. Despite the restrictions caused by Covid-19 they ensured that we were able to effectively engage with key stakeholders within Nottingham through a mix of in-person and online consultation. Through the local relationships built, including with the Nottingham Creative Quarter, we ensured that this site stood out among a crowded field of PBSA applications in Nottingham. These relationships will help to foster a continued collaborative approach with the local community as we move towards the next stage of this exciting project
