As the sun began to set in Croydon, the long-awaited match between SEC Newgate and Vistry Group South East finally kicked off, fuelling the excitement in the air.

Vistry began the game by taking control early on with some neat passing around the midfield. However, their dominance was short-lived as SEC Newgate, led by Nathan Nimi at the back, quickly applied some tenacious and effective pressing, disrupting their rhythm.

Despite the pressure, both teams created a flurry of chances, with Caiman "the cat" Desai making a number of crucial saves for SEC Newgate to keep the scores level. However, it was Vistry who managed to break the deadlock with a tidy finish in the bottom left corner.

SEC Newgate sought an equaliser through some Mourinho-esque counter-attacking but Vistry soon stepped up a gear and 1-0 soon turned to 3-0 after two quickfire goals. Halftime struck with the hosts comfortably in the lead.

The half-time team talk from captain David Scane clearly struck a chord as SEC Newgate came out firing on all cylinders in the second half. With impressive link-up play between the forwards and some tidy finishing from Jed and Charlie, the game was suddenly level at 3-3.

Despite the setback of conceding the equaliser, Vistry remained resilient and was soon able to regain the lead. As the game entered its later stages, fatigue began to set in, and the pace of the game began to slow down. This change in tempo seemed to benefit the hosts as they were able to capitalise netting a flurry of goals in quick succession.

Despite SEC Newgate’s valiant efforts to mount a comeback, Vistry held on to the lead and emerged victorious with a final score of 13-8. Big thanks to all those involved, and we shall be eagerly awaiting the return leg!
