Byron is a Senior Adviser of SEC Newgate specialising in Financial Communications, Banking and Financial Services, Media and Property and has extensive international media relationships.

Prior to joining SEC Newgate in 2013, he was co-head of Gavin Anderson's London Financial Services practice. He started his career as a journalist. He also had senior in-house communications roles at Lloyds Bank, De Beers and Morgan Grenfell.

He is co-author of bestselling book “Cold Steel” which was shortlisted for the 2008 FT/Goldman Sachs Business Book of the Year Award and subsequently translated into Chinese, Japanese, Hindi and Murati.

Byron also co-authored “Spinners -to -the edge and beyond “, a fictionalised account of life in an international strategic communications consultancy. The book, published in October 2024, was co- written with Richard Constant, a leading practitioner and former colleague.
