With seven years of experience working for senior politicians in Westminster, Siân brings her knowledge of the workings of both government and opposition politics to SEC Newgate’s Advocacy team.
She has served as a special adviser and speechwriter to the former Chancellor of the Exchequer, Philip Hammond, in the Department for Transport and the Ministry of Defence. During this time, she worked on high-profile political issues including HS2, rail investment strategy, low-carbon transport, the Defence Equipment Programme, the restructuring of the Army and the Comprehensive Spending Review.
During the Conservatives’ time in opposition, Siân served as a senior adviser to the Shadow Treasury Team, helping to shape the Conservative approach to public spending and supporting the development of the 2010 election manifesto. She has also worked in Conservative Campaign Headquarters as a policy adviser on pensions and welfare.
As SEC Newgate’s lead adviser in Wales, Siân helps clients navigate Wales’ unique political context, advising her clients on communications strategy and political engagement. Her knowledge of the workings of the Welsh Parliament, combined with her Westminster experience, means that her clients can benefit from her expertise at both ends of the M4.
Originally from Cardiff, Siân holds a degree in Italian and French from Cambridge University and regularly appears on Welsh media as a political commentator. Prior to working in politics, she worked as a financial services strategy consultant and as a business journalist in Cardiff.
